From the CD's back cover, Surprise was "produced by Paul Simon, sonic landscapes by Brian Eno, recorded and programming by Andy Smith and mixed by Tchad Blake."
1. "Wartime Prayers" includes Herbie Hancock on piano, Gil Goldstein on keyboards and the Jesse Dixon Singers in the choir.
2. "Father and Daughter" vocals by Simon and additional vocal by Adrian Simon. (Simon's first child with Edie Brickell is Adrian Edward Simon.)
3. "Father and Daughter" has Simon on electric, acoustic and nylon string guitars, Vincent Nguini on acoustic rhythm guitar.
